Lent, the Baptist way
Posted on | February 20, 2010 | 2 Comments
I was raised Southern Baptist. So the idea of Lent is kind of new and strange. I mean, I knew that all my friends would talk about “giving things up” but I didn’t really understand why. Now that I’m an adult and I’ve “altered” a lot of my Southern Baptist-isms, Lent makes a lot more sense to me. You’ll note that I’m still a few days behind, but this year, for the first time, I am giving something up for Lent. Actually, Husband and I both are participating.
Yesterday, Husband sat down to read my blog. He reads on occasion and yesterday when he finished, he looked up at me and said “Wow. You cuss a lot in your blog.” It sort of rubbed me the wrong way. I am not a big cusser in “real life” so I couldn’t figure out what prompted me to let loose on my blog. I read back through yesterday’s entry and some of the other entries as well and I realized that I do, indeed, have a potty mouth. And I have a son who is quickly approaching mimicry age. Husband and I discussed it, and we’re giving up profanity for lent.
Like I said, I’m not a massive cusser in “real life” but I have to admit, I enjoy my potty mouth. It’s a nice release. So it’s going to be really tough for me. Sadly, we’ve included all types of real and assumed profanity, even Husband’s favorite derogatory term, D-bag. So until Easter, you’ll be reading a kinder, gentler Law Momma.
Happy Lent and Wish me Luck!!
