Momma’s Momma on … Momma stuff

Posted on | July 21, 2010 | 8 Comments

I came home from work to find my mother in hysterics. In a good way.

Apparently she was giving J his breathing treatment and turned on the television to entertain him. The only “kid friendly” programming she could find was Kung-Fu Panda on HBO… well, I’m assuming that’s what it was. She said it was Kung-Fu Something with a bear so for the sake of brevity, let’s all just nod and smile and picture Jack Black as a panda.

Anyhow, she was giving J the treatment and when she was almost finished, something amusing happened on the screen and my kid… my baby… my SO not old enough to watch tv and GET it… threw back his head and laughed! And then clapped. And laughed again.

What the?????

Who is this kid?? When did he get old enough to laugh at the television? I’d like to think it was nothing more than a well-timed gas bubble or something, but who knows.

On a side note, I had to share this gem of mother-ness. I told my mom I was cramping up a little and wondered if I was getting my period… you know, for the first time in five months. She made a little small talk, you know, classy period stuff, then proceeded to say that she “Gave up her monthly mess when she was 34.”

Momma’s momma say WHAT?

I died. Honestly. D-I-E-D.

I’ve never heard anyone call their period their “Monthly Mess” before and I LOVE IT.

So there you have it. A little monthly mess for you. But not MY monthly mess. That’s still conspicuously absent. (no. I am not pregnant. Yes. I have tested. A zillion times.)

I may also be conspicuously (or inconspicuously) absent on Thursday and Friday since the move is taking place on Friday and then I’m hauling bootie up to Charlotte to throw a baby shower for one of the greatest women on the planet. If it were for anyone else, I swear I would call in an apology and unpack my apartment, but this girl? Is awesome. And I’m pumped to be doing this for her because with the exception of Jenny, I can’t think of another woman I know who deserves motherhood any more than her. So forgive me if I’m gone… I’ll be back, swear!

At least Kung-Fu Panda is somewhat entertaining!

oh our mother. Monthly mess?!?! Geez. 🙂

Also, of course your kid likes movies. Look where he came from. He will have that same off the wall sense of humor that you share with your husband!

    Safe travels this weekend!!

I LOVE Kung Fu Panda! One of my all-time favs. Yes, I realize that it's aimed at kids. But it's awesome.

So is this your first monthly mess since the baby? My first (last month) was such a crampy nightmare!
