Sunday Sip and Speak

For Granddaddy

Three flowers hang from my window shade,
One yellow
One white
One red.
They dangle there,
petals floor-bound with the weight of his passing.
The ceiling fan breeze whispers them against the shade,
a reminder
of a life well-lived,
a man well-loved.
A man so loved,
that even these flowers bow their heads
to honor his passage.

Three flowers hang from my window shade,
bowing their heads in gentle remorse,
Waiting for the day I can unwind them from their rubber-bound grief
and gently press them,
lovingly press them
Into their rightful place in my heart.

But for now,
they hang their heads with mine,

Knowing, as flowers do,
that my heart is still too broken
to seal with flowers.

We celebrated Day of the Dead this year and talked a lot about grandaddy. Walker was impressed by my explaining his ability to whistle in an ear piercing way 😉

Still miss that man almost everyday.
