The Week.. in rewind

Well, it’s Friday… finally… and this has been a crazy week. Not that every week isn’t crazy in its own way. I mean, as a mom you have to learn to expect the unexpected, right? And as a working mom without in home daycare, you have to multiply that by three.

You may remember that I was worried about J having an ear infection when I had to spend all day Wednesday in the car. Well, I went, all day in the car, back to the nuclear power plant and then up to Augusta for a deposition. J went to daycare because I let Husband make the call. He is, after all, one half of our parenting duo and he has a valid opinion. I’ll admit it’s hard for me to say that. It’s weird but I feel very possessive over my son… almost like “Dude, I grew him, so BACK OFF” and I forget that I had some help. He’s OURS, not mine. So Husband took him to daycare on Wednesday and I took him on Thursday morning, planning to pick him up and take him to the doctor that afternoon.

I had my own doctor appointment to follow up on all the craziness that I’ve been experiencing. I haven’t really updated that part in a while, so here goes… I don’t know anything. Ha! How’s that for scientific answers?  My CT scan came back normal but there’s still blood, even after treating my UTI. My doctor seems to think that my nausea and dizziness and overall fatigue are not related to the hematuria so he’s suggesting I go see a neurologist, as I like to say, for my “crazy brain.” I asked him yesterday to do some repeat blood work and check a few suggestions made by, well, YOU guys (thanks!) like my thyroid, my B-12 and several other things. We’ll see how this all turns out.

Just before I went to my doctor’s appointment, my in-house boss stopped my office and asked if I was planning to go to our Atlanta office open house. I casually replied no. He looked for a second and then said “I think they’re expecting you to be there…”

Cue panic. I had asked my Atlanta boss if I had to be there and got no response so I just assumed I didn’t have to! I emailed my boss, called my boss, and proceeded to freak out on twitter for a bit. Then I got a semi-cryptic response that made me feel like I needed to be there. So I sent an email saying if the doctor didn’t tell me I was sick then I would hop a plane and be there. And then, heaven. Thank God for female attorneys who are also moms and also happen to be one of my bosses. She called and the first words out of her mouth?

“Are you CRAZY?”

Love her. So I decided it maybe wasn’t worth stressing out over and I canceled my panic attack and went to the doctor.

Jump ahead to the afternoon. I picked up J and took him to the doctor only to discover that my son did not have an ear infection… he had two. That’s right, BOTH ears infected. Poor little guy. We spent $165 on medications between the two of us (I have a sinus infection) and went home.

So let’s recap:

Mom intuition = Two points
Dad Logic = Zero

Happy Friday, y’all!

Poor J!! Hope his ears are feeling better soon. And your sinus infection? Ugh. My younger 2 each have one. Full on nastiness. Hope YOU feel better. Get some rest this weekend. No monster cleaning.

I am almost ALWAYS right when I think my kids have ear infections. The husband just says, nah, send 'em to school. Only after several nights of limited sleep does he then agree that something might be wrong. So I quit consulting him and just always make the doctor's appointment on my own.
