Inter-Whatta?

Posted on | January 19, 2011 | 2 Comments

So you may remember back in October/November I was having a lot of health issues. If you don’t remember, well… I was having health issues in October/November.¬†

My original treating doctor made me feel like a looney toon by referring me to a neurologist and all types of other crazy doctors for what amounted to severe¬†pelvic pain, extreme exhaustion and bouts of dizziness. I didn’t think I really needed a neurologist so I opted for a new doctor, this one an Internist rather than just a GP. First, I LOVE LOVE LOVE my new doctor. She’s amazing. And bonus, she had created a working diagnosis for what could be causing all of this.

Interstitial Cystitis.

I know. My response was Inter-whatta cyst-a-who? But apparently it’s pretty common. Like 4 million people in the US common. And it mostly affects women. The thing is, it’s a diagnosis by exculsion. So what I get to look forward to is having a camera shoved up my pee hole so a urologist can look inside my bladder and rule out such fun things as polyps and cancer and then say “Yep. Interstitial Cystitis.” Even more fun? There’s no cure. BUT, there are ways to manage the chronic pain and other symptoms.

Anyone of you have this? Any suggestions you can give me for things to try in the mean time? You know, pre-camera shoving?

It’s popped up a couple of times in cases and I did some research in the past. It doesn’t sound fun AT ALL. As I recall, they had the patient on pain killers and maybe Ditropan. Pubmed has a list of foods to stay away from. I saw coffee, chocolate and alcohol and quit reading because that would pretty much do me in. Good luck. Sounds like your new GP rocks!

I’m pretty sure my mom has this, but I don’t know anything about it. Which isn’t very helpful. Sorry.

FYI, I was managing my follower list today and for some reason your blog was no longer popping up in my dashboard reader. I unfollowed and refollowed. It looks like you’ve changed your site around. I don’t know if that anything to do with it or not.
