April Fool’s Day!

Posted on | April 1, 2011 | 2 Comments

I thought briefly about posting an April Fool’s Day joke, but ultimately decided against it. Mostly because the only things I thought of were ridiculously silly.

So instead, I’m going to share with you some freaking awesome ways to celebrate this fun holiday with kids!

1. Cupcakes for Dinner. Seriously, check out this neat recipe from Disney on how to make meatloaf and mashed potatoes look like cupcakes. I am totally making this for dinner tonight. Will try to share pictures if they turn out.

2.  Pick your Poison.  A friend with older children shared this gem.  You plan out your meal and you make little cards for everything, one for each member of your family.  When you sit down for dinner, nothing is at each place at the table except a bowl with cards.  For each “course” every family member draws three cards.  So let’s say you’re eating pasta with marinara and parmesan cheese with garlic bread and sweet tea.  For course one, you reach into your bowl and you draw out “Sweet tea, fork, parmesan.”  That means for your first course, all you get is a sip of tea out of the pitcher (b/c you didn’t draw a cup), a handful of parmesan cheese and a totally useless fork.  See how it works? I can’t wait for J to get old enough to try this. It sounds messy but awesome.  Just a tip? I’d recommend dining outside if you want to try this!

3.   Prank your spouse.  Again, this would only work for older kids, but if you both get kids involved then you can have an all out prank war for the few hours that everyone is at home.  Of course, it takes either a little pre-planning or a sadistic mind.  I assume anyone reading this blog already has a sadistic mind, so you’re probably good to go.  Some of the best pranks are also the simplest when kids are involved… things like short-sheeting beds, using a whoopee cushion, or my favorite? Having a child strategically placed with velcro… the first time your husband bends over to pick something up, signal your kid to rip the velcro.  Trust me… it’s hilarious. (Cheap laughs are my specialty).

Okay, so it’s not much, but I love a good prank.  What have you guys got in your sick, sick minds? Keep in mind, I don’t like to scare or emotionally traumatize my husband… no ‘oops I’m pregnant” and no “we’re getting a divorce.” Just fun little things that I can do by myself now, and later? With J’s help.

It’s Nannyboychild’s birthday today! Ha. And NannyDad just called, they just called off their divorce, and he calls NannyMom and is like “They stamped the wrong paper we were legally divorced this morning!!” She’s like, “Ha…bye.” lol 🙂
