Friday Confessions

When I was in my early 20’s, something embarrassing happened.

Up until that point, I was just your typical kid, teenager, college student.  I listened to rap, the Indigo Girls, Phish, Stone Temple Pilots… pretty much anything mainstream or anything considered “trendy.”  My first concert without my parents was to see Boyz II Men and TLC.  I followed that up with trips to see Smashing Pumpkins, Stone Temple Pilots, Dave Matthews Band and a host of other “normal” musicians.

And then something happened.  Something I’ve been embarassed about for a long time.  Something I’m coming clean on right now.

I fell in love with N’Sync.

There. I said it.

I went to no less than three concerts. THREE.  At one point, I even knew a lot of the dance moves to one (okay maybe more) of their songs.  I was horrified by myself but I just. couldn’t. stop.  They sucked me in like a vortex.  I had no control.  I was all “I LOVE YOU J.C.!” in my head.

And then I moved on.  I gave away my signed CD.  I chucked my N’Sync Christmas album, the one I would totally listen to in the middle of summer.  I stopped listening because I was so worried that someone would find out and full-on mock me, like my guy friends did in college.

But now that I’m older and wiser, I am coming clean.  I loved N’Sync. They made me smile.  They made me want to dance.  They may have also made me a bit of a loser, but I’m cool with that.

And this morning, when “Tearing Up My Heart” came  on unexpectedly on the radio, a little piece of me cheered.  A larger  piece of me smiled.  And before I knew it, I was laughing out loud as I almost unknowingly fell back into some of the dance moves.  I was rocking out in the drivers’ seat.

I should be embarrased.

But I’m not.

I still like N’Sync.

Love it! I so loved them and when Justin Timberlake sang “Gone” in concert? Let’s just say 20-something Jess was a screaming preteen.

They rock. Ten times harder than those lame BackstreetBoys. 😉

Fun post. Sing loud today, lady.

Dude, you’re totally allowed to like N’Sync. Backstreet Boys and 98 Degrees, however, are another thing entirely…

My friends and I were the girls who were *so* not supposed to like N’Sync, because we were so alternative and whatever. But one day in the car, we all looked at each other when an N’Sync song came on the radio, and we all busted out singing at the top of our lungs. N’Sync was/is awesome.

Thanks for this post!! When I was younger and my sisters and I all lived under the same roof, we would watch *NSYNC videos and learn the dance moves. We can still jump into “it’s gonna be me” dance formation at any given time. We may or may not have danced to *nsync in public parking lots when the song came on the radio. I’m glad I’m not the only closet *nsync fan!!

Ah, and let the healing begin 🙂
Be true to yourself always. Never suppress your likes because they are not sophisticated or politically correct. You can admit to be silly if necessary, but enjoy what you enjoy. And anyone that trys to suppress who you are is not worthy of being a friend.

I loved them. I still love them. I am secretly hoping that they get back together for just one more album. I went to a concert…and I screamed like the 13 year olds. I still have a crush on Justin and JC. Oh and that Christmas album? I listen to it starting around November 1 until…and if you need a copy I might know where to get it 🙂 And I still get excited when their songs come on the radio because it makes me happy, too.

You shouldn’t be embarrassed – they were popular for a reason.

    Dirty pop indeed

I want to know who doesn’t get giddy with excitement when one of their old songs comes on the radio. I may not have been a huge fan back in the day, but I owned a cd or two, and there’s just something about their songs that makes you want to dance and smile 🙂

Love it. N’Synch were fantastic, so I say, no shame! Justin Timberlake is hosting the SNL finale…sure to be hilarious. And he’s legal now…

Love. Lovelovelove it. And N’Sync. I went to see them too, when I was about 20 something, with a bunch of people who were waaay younger than me. I saw them twice, and loved every minute of it, and I screamed my heart out.

I also love New Kids on the Block. And they’re back together and touring (with those lame-o backstreet boys) but whatever. If they can do it, so can N’Sync.

Your ability to dance around like a goofball in your car while listening to a boy band with total disregard to your own embarassment will be one of the things your son loves most about you. I guarantee it. So, keep it up!

I was totally a closet N’Sync fan! I went to a concert in college and was afraid to tell anyone. Their music was just so catchy!

This post made me crack up b/c I can totally relate!
