Grown Up, Party of Me

When I was a kid, I wasn’t one of those who desperately wanted to grow up. In fact, if anything, I was a little too Peter Pan-ish. I worried a lot about getting older and having to be a grown up… you know, until I was about 13 and decided I basically WAS a grown […]

25 Days of Christmas

I love Christmas. I love the magic and the candlelight and the love and the full on explosion of good moods across, well, everything. And because I love Christmas so much, last year I started this idea of doing 25 days of Christmas with J. Each day, we’d do something else Christmasy. I’d bake or […]

I Shall Be Released

I’m a worrier by nature and by nurture, spending much of my quiet time running through disaster scenarios in my head and wondering if I’ve done enough to prepare for the zombie apocalypse. Okay, not really on the zombie bit, but I do worry about a lot of things. A LOT of things. And though […]

What’s Love Got to Do With It?

You may know this and you may not, but I’ve been in a relationship in my past where I was cheated on. And if you’ve ever been cheated on, you know that the memory of that heartache stays with you like a hovering cloud of distrust. When you find yourself in a stable relationship, you […]

How to Choose Happy

My boyfriend always tells me that happiness is a choice. And usually I respond with a choice gesture from one of my more used fingers. But this morning, when my son woke me up for the second day in a row before 5am, I decided I’d give it a chance. So I lay very still […]

Men are From Mars

I’ve always heard the mantra that “Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus” and I’ve always sort of thought it was silly. I mean, we’re people, right? How hard can it be for people to communicate? Then I started dating. And I realized that yeah… it’s true. We are totally from different planets […]

Head over Heels over and over ad nauseum

My ex and I never lived in the same town until several months before our wedding, so we spent a lot of time in a stage of dating that can only be called “pining.” He wasn’t really around enough for me to get aggravated or frustrated. He’d come in on a Friday night after work […]

Plans

It’s hard to plan when you’re single parenting. It’s hard to say “On such and such date, I will be at this or that place at this or that time” because you really don’t know what is going to happen that day. Your kid could be sick and you have no sitter, you could be […]

Choosing Happy

When I was married, I spent a lot of time wondering why things weren’t better. I did a lot of silent judging of my husband and a lot of not-so-silent judging. I was angry and lonely and bitter and probably not that fun to be around. And I think, honestly, it’s because I just couldn’t […]

Decidedly Messy but Oh So Happy

In the days, weeks, and months after divorce, I was convinced I was totally broken. I was ruined for all eternity, never to love again… never to be in a relationship again… never to feel that sweet rush of comfort that comes from just having someone beside you; someone who gets you, knows you, and […]

  • I'm a divorced, single mom to a pre-schooler, a full-time attorney, and a semi-reluctant vegetarian. I work hard and when given the chance, I play hard... but I'm almost never given the chance.

It's possible that I never outgrew 7th grade mentality, as I still laugh when anyone says anything that can be remotely construed as sexual. Let's face it, if you're not down with "That's what s/he said" at the end of almost any sentence, we're probably not going to get along all that well.

I drink more than I should, I run more than I should, and I laugh as much as I can. So I'm pretty much winning at life.
