25 Days of Christmas

I love Christmas. I love the magic and the candlelight and the love and the full on explosion of good moods across, well, everything. And because I love Christmas so much, last year I started this idea of doing 25 days of Christmas with J. Each day, we’d do something else Christmasy. I’d bake or […]

A Different Sort of Paris

This morning, I called my mother on the way to work. While we were talking, she mentioned she’s been thinking about planning a trip and that she desperately wants to see Paris. She joked that my dad wouldn’t want to do the things she’d want to do… that he’d want to sit in a cafe […]

Walt Disney World… Law Momma Style

I hardly know where or when or how to begin to talk about our recent trip to Walt Disney World. I could say that it was wonderful, but that wouldn’t quite be enough. I could say that we got drenched at Epcot but that isn’t everything. I could say that I fell head over heels […]

Family Vacations

Y’all… I am absolutely giddy with excitement. In just a few hours, I am snapping J into his car seat and climbing into Banks’ car to head to Disney World. And yes, I’m excited to go to Disney but it’s so much more than that. I think I’m mostly excited because… well… for the first […]

Who Run the World?

It’s easy to fall into a slump when you’re dating someone… especially post-divorce. I mean, let’s face it… when I was married, I did stuff with my spouse. Sure, we took the kid most everywhere we went, but I rarely did anything with girlfriends because I had to do things with him. So when I […]

The Christmas Story

This time of year does something to me, ever since I became a mother. I didn’t realize it until 2009, when J was just four months old, and I found myself sitting in a church pew on Christmas eve, bawling my eyes out while the minister read the Christmas Story.  All of a sudden it […]

Us: With the World

J had his first dose of anesthesia when he was just three months old.  I remember holding him in my arms, snuggling him close, while they injected the medicine into the tiny tube attached to his forehead and swallowed down sobs as his eyes rolled back in his head and he went limp against me.  […]

It Takes a Village

There are a lot of things I admire/covet about my sister: her ability to let troubles roll off her back like oil on water; her imaginative and sweet-natured son and daughter; her wide expanse of a yard including an herb garden, chickens, bees, and a swing set;  her attentive and engaged husband… the list goes […]

The Importance of Being Small

When I was a little girl, I dreamed of changing the world. I thought that to really change the world, I had to be really big, really effing important… a politician, a famous actress, a television personality.  I looked at the people around me who were content to be “small” and I wondered what was […]

A Hopeful Beginning

For all my “it’s just a tick of a clock,” somewhere deep down, I think I expected magic with the dawn of 2012.  Let’s face it, 2011 wasn’t a banner year in my household.  I don’t know what I wanted to happen, but greeting the day with ever-increasing back pain, a toddler who prefers to […]

  • I'm a divorced, single mom to a pre-schooler, a full-time attorney, and a semi-reluctant vegetarian. I work hard and when given the chance, I play hard... but I'm almost never given the chance.

It's possible that I never outgrew 7th grade mentality, as I still laugh when anyone says anything that can be remotely construed as sexual. Let's face it, if you're not down with "That's what s/he said" at the end of almost any sentence, we're probably not going to get along all that well.

I drink more than I should, I run more than I should, and I laugh as much as I can. So I'm pretty much winning at life.
