The one where I’m kicking myself for semi-bragging on J’s sleep habits…

I jinxed myself. I mean, that’s really the only possible answer to what happened to me yesterday. It was really a less than stellar Mother’s Day on all fronts. I didn’t get anything… not even a card, but I knew that going in. Husband and I are on a tight budget to try and pay […]

Home "Sweet" Home

It’s good to be home. I’m not normally the biggest fan of returning home after trips. The drive to do something fun always seems easier than the drive to return to status quo. But this time? Pulling into my driveway made me want to burst into the Hallelujah Chorus. And that’s not to say I […]

The Story of Us

On Wednesday night, my parents came into town. This is noteworthy because they live in North Carolina and we hadn’t seen them since Christmas. (That’s a lifetime in J time, too.) Having them here, and watching how they interact with each other got me thinking about Husband and I and what kind of parents and […]

Me Time

Today, J is six months old. It doesn’t seem like that’s possible, but apparently it is. So I think it’s appropriate that I talk today about one of the toughest parts of being a mom. Because I’ve been a mom for six months… barely any time at all, but I have already realized how difficult […]

Dad-ism

I have a busy day lined up today and need to get to it. So rather than not post at all, I thought I’d share a priceless “dad-ism” courtesy of Husband last night: “Aw, J,  if you like something, you put it in your mouth… just like a prostitute.” We’re gonna be the best parents… […]

I am (apparently) SHE-Ra!

Friday nights are theoretically Husband’s nights to keep J so that I can have a night off. We made that bargain several weeks ago but he has only actually accomplished the feat twice. And I secretly don’t mind his failed attempts. It’s really easier to just continue to sleep in the nursery than to climb […]

MommyGate

I have a high-need son. And right now, his need is MOMMY. It’s borderline ridiculous and would be annoying if he weren’t so absolutely adorable. He is perfectly fine in daycare. He has fun, he plays, he enjoys his time with his fabulous teacher. But then, from the moment I pick him up until he […]

Drool

Husband has taken to calling J “Slimer.” I find it amusing primarily because it’s so appropriate. The child is a drool machine. I’ve never seen anything like it. I keep thinking he has to be dehydrated because no one could lose that much fluid and still keep going! Yesterday our only recourse to changing his […]

Equitable Parenting

This morning, my husband was responsible for taking J to daycare. We sat down on Monday night and came up with a plan… I’ll take J Tuesday/Thursday and pick him up Mon/Wed/Fri. Husband will take him Mon/Wed/Fri and pick him up Tues/Thurs. Yes, that’s three mornings for him and two for me and sure that […]

  • I'm a divorced, single mom to a pre-schooler, a full-time attorney, and a semi-reluctant vegetarian. I work hard and when given the chance, I play hard... but I'm almost never given the chance.

It's possible that I never outgrew 7th grade mentality, as I still laugh when anyone says anything that can be remotely construed as sexual. Let's face it, if you're not down with "That's what s/he said" at the end of almost any sentence, we're probably not going to get along all that well.

I drink more than I should, I run more than I should, and I laugh as much as I can. So I'm pretty much winning at life.
