Update on Momma Day

Posted on | March 25, 2010 | 4 Comments

My day started out … not so great. I have had a headache for the past three days and nothing I do gets rid of it. Last night I was bawling for Husband to come take J because if he made one more noise in my general direction I was quite certain my head was going to explode. Literally, I was lying in the fetal position on my bed with a pillow wrapped around my head. Not great.

Cut to this morning when I had to take J for his follow-up blood work for his Atlanta doctors. They graciously sent me the lab forms so I could get them done here rather than drive back up there. This morning was the second attempt to secure these labs… yesterday’s failed miserably when I arrived only to realize I had forgotten my wallet. So I drive down to the hospital, park, tote in my adorable son, and proceed to wait. And wait. And wait. And dear God wait. I swear to you I do not understand how a place can operate when they are so effing slow. And that goes for all doctors. I don’t understand how they get backed up. I know that when I see the doctor I’m lucky if they even stay ten minutes… so how do they get behind? But I digress. Back to the labs. I had timed everything perfectly. We arrived at 8:30, about an hour and a half before he would need to eat and about an hour before he would be overly tired. Only I didn’t plan on the rampant incompetency. We waited clear into the 9s. Then it was 9:30. Then it was 10. And J was SCREAMING. Not just crying, full on wailing. People were staring at me like “Dude, get your kid in check.”

When they finally called us back, they couldn’t find the paperwork. Then they had to call Atlanta. So we waited. And waited. And OMG I could kill someone waited. Then the nurse came in. Sweet little old lady. She wrapped the rubber tube around first one arm and then the other, looking for the best vein. All the while, J is wailing. She finally decides on the left arm.

No. Lie. I almost passed out. The room was so effing hot. And. This. MONSTER of a sweet old lady was suddenly digging around in my son’s arm like she was a freaking bird rooting for a worm. I could see the needle under the skin and it was AWFUL. He was wailing, understandably at this point, so loud that other nurses came in to see if she needed help. After FIVE MINUTES of her digging in my poor child’s arm I demanded asked politely requested that she stop so that I didn’t either vomit in her face or pass out cold. At that point, she escorted J and I upstairs to the Children’s Hospital where they quite easily drew blood from a vein on his hand and appeased him with sugar water.

By the time I dropped him off at daycare it was almost 11. He was exhausted and starving and my headache had gone from Oh God this hurts to WHY IS THERE NO EJECT BUTTON ON MY BRAIN. It wasn’t the best morning, to say the least.

And then I went home to meet the house cleaners. Let me first say that I am always on time. I’m obsessive about it. It’s why I was so upset when I wrote down the wrong time for my hair appointment. So I was quite certain that at 12:30 I would be meeting with my house cleaners. Baby brain strikes again. They were patiently waiting on my arrival when I got home at 12:15. Yeah. I’d said noon. *sigh*

They came in, and I kid you not, I couldn’t have cast better women to be house cleaners in the story that is my life. They were so perfect I just wanted to hug them. I will not describe them here, in order to protect their privacy on the off chance that someone directs them to this blog one day (ha!) but suffice to say that picture, in your head, the perfect housecleaning duo. Got em? That’s who is cleaning my house. I can’t wait. And you’ll be proud of me… I didn’t even mention Fairy Godmother’s once. I did, however, gush and gush over how I’ve never had anyone clean my house before… But then, I think they could tell that by looking around….

Having someone clean your house will be one of the best decisions you've ever made. There is nothing better than coming home to a clean house! I hope your day gets better and your headache scales back at least a little!

I can't believe that about the doctor's office! Well, wait. I can. But I totally agree with you. It's pretty ridiculous that they get so behind. I don't make an appointment for 8 just to wait for an hour. SO sorry that that happened to you. I get angry just waiting by myself, and having a fussy baby in the mix makes it 132145649 times worse. Hope you had a good Mommy night!

Everytime I read your posts I add someone to my "Must hunt down" list. Now it's sweet old ladies.

I'm glad you love your housekeepers. It's an important relationship – for me it came in right behind Sam. We didn't have Bella yet. And yes, I cleaned for them as well.

Hoping your day is better tomorrow!
