Write for Charity

Hey all… two posts in one day. I’m on a roll!

I got an email yesterday from Beth Davis at Write for Charity and she has a project I’d like to share with you all. Here’s the Press Release and then I’ll share my thoughts:

Fundraisers are calling for short story and poetry submissions for a national anthology to benefit children’s charities. From the submissions, 101 pieces will be chosen to appear in the anthology which is scheduled for released in May of this year.

“The most important thing to a parent is their child,” says Beth Davis, an editor on the project. “If we can do something we love, in this case writing, and have it benefit children all over the country then we really are accomplishing something wonderful.”

The book will be a collaborative effort featuring uplifting true stories as well as fictional pieces and poetry all related to the subject of parenting. Funds from the sale of the book will be donated to children’s hospitals and disease research.

Writers are invited to submit their work at Write for Charity’s website along with a short bio that will be printed in the event that their work is chosen for this anthology.

Write for Charity is an organization dedicated to using the written word to improve the world.

For more details or to submit your story to Write for Charity, visit www.writeforcharity.com.

Okay seriously? If you don’t love this idea you’re not human. Parents. Sharing their thoughts with other parents to benefit sick children. YES PLEASE! If you’re interested in participating, here are the details:

Stories/Poems/etc must be less than 2000 words. If you want to include a Bio, it should be less than 500 words. Please include your name, address, telephone number and email address with your submission. Once you’ve got all that info together, send it to storysubmission2010@gmail.com

I’d love nothing more than for Beth to get a gazillion entries that say “Heard about you from Law Momma… here’s my story to help raise money for sick kids.” (or, you know, in your own words) Submissions are due by April 15th… so log off here and get to writing!

I'm really excited about this – thanks for sharing.

Now, per your instructions, I'm logging off to go start my submission.

That's a lie, I'm going to do laundry. But I will be thinking about this submission and that counts right?
