Ten Reasons being a mom rocks (even when it doesn’t)

I need a pick me up this morning.  We’re in week five billion and seventy-three of J being sick, plus he’s in a cast, plus it’s coming up on the end of the month and I need to be billing more and instead I’m at home with my feverish child who thinks throwing blocks at me is an awesome pass time.  So, needless to say, I need a pick me up.  I can’t really rely on life to provide keys to joy these days, so I thought I’d come up with my own list… ten ways that being a mom can rock, even when it totally doesn’t.

1. When your kid is sick and you have to miss work (again) you get to share a lot of snuggles that you normally miss out on.

2. Carefully aiming and chucking blocks at your head shows that your child is mastering hand eye coordination and may have a future in sports.

3. Not being able to bathe your child in the bathtub means you get to have a lot of quality time chasing your son around trying to get him to hold still while you sponge bathe him with a rag that’s getting progressively colder.  This is not only quality time with your kid, it’s also great exercise.

4. Watching Shrek (1-4) on repeat will help you perfect your faux-Scottish accent and will lead you to hear Antonio Banderas’ voice in random things other people say.

5. Not being able to put any long sleeved shirts on your kid means you get to shop for new short-sleeved shirts and maybe you can score something for yourself that you’ll not be able to fit into and then you’ll cry. But crying is a good ab workout so … win!

6. Spending a day with a sick child can lead you to all types of new and inventive ways to say “no” and creative pass times like “Empty the dishwasher” and “help load the dryer.”  These activities teach new skills AND get the house cleaner.

7.  The fact that your son’s poop is audible just means that you know exactly when his diaper needs to be changed.

8. Having to take your kid all the way to the mainland to the doctor gives you a great excuse to run by the drug store for more tylenol and replacement wipes for all the wipes your kid yanked out of the container in order to “wipe his mouth.”

9. You can use your kid’s new favorite activity, “empty the drawers,” to help you find things to donate to Goodwill.

10. Letting your kid eat cereal in the living room in front of the tv just means you won’t have to feed the dog as early.

Hmm… I feel better already.

I love when we can find joy in the “little things” in life. Especially poop. Leave to a mom to find a positive side to poop!

love it. I too needed a pick me up this morning as my little one is deciding that once again he’d like to be up a million times at night and then not nap for daddy or gramma during the day.
    Thanks for posting this!
