Single Successes

Posted on | June 24, 2011 | 13 Comments

This has been a week of struggles for me between the foot injury and the shot records and everything else.  But along the way, I still had some good moments, because who are we kidding? Every week is 7 days long… they can’t be ALL bad.  So here’s what was great about this week for me:

1.  I painted three fourths of my gigantic kitchen/breakfast area a lovely shade of apple green… by myself… with minimal “accidents” of painting green on the trim or ceiling.

2. I cooked two meals on Sunday to have for the week (Pinto and Polenta pie and Veggie Shepherd’s Pie) and both were such a huge success with both J and I that we haven’t eaten out for a single meal all week! (This is a HUGE accomplishment for me.)

3. J and I created a new bedtime routine that seems to be working really well.  He lies down in his crib and I read him Winnie the Pooh with one hand in the crib, on his foot.  Then, when Pooh is finished, I pull out a Mommy book and read quietly to myself until he falls asleep. The end result is no screaming, no crying, full on sleep for J and BONUS, reading time for Mommy.

4. I’m slowly wrapping my head around work. It’s a process because I switched sides of the “v” so I’m auto-programmed to immediately find fault in every case that comes in.  But I’m learning to turn that into a way to fix all the faults… it’s just a slow process.

That’s what I did that I’m proud of this week.  What about you? Did you do something amazing? Or did you just make it through the week. Because either way, folks, it’s Friday… and we made it! 🙂   (In other news, I’m thinking about making this a Link Up… would you guys be interested in that? Linking up your Friday success stories so I can come see what you’re awesome at? Or do you prefer just keeping it to the comments… Let me know!)

My parents are in town to watch the kids this weekend. I managed to keep my mouth shut every time they said something judgmental or shallow. I was neither disrespectful or bitchy. I just let them be flawed. Which is huge for me. Usually when with them, I either find myself trying to correct them or secretly popping a Valium.

Good for you, keep it up.

I had a great week, and this weekend is going to be better. Have some fun this weekend!

I took a vacation day to get some things done around the house.

That day I let Talulah sleep in and we walked (instead of driving) to daycare because we had all the time in the world, which was SO GREAT!

Then I cleaned, organized, purged and washed the floors in my kitchen, dining room and living room. Sure, I didn’t get the whole house done… But those three rooms still made me feel WAAAAAY less anxious.

That night, I got to enjoy the company of one of my best friends and snuggle her 7 week old baby for two and a half hours. It was bliss.

    Sigh.

Even though that was only one day out of seven… Still, it was a GREAT one day.

I love your new bedtime routine, and I’m glad it’s working out for you.

I haven’t felt like much of a success, being so lazy since T is still with his grandparents (he comes home on SUNDAY!). But I went rollerblading with my friend 2 nights & we went for a bike ride last night. So I guess that’s a success for exercising AND hanging out with my wonderful friend.

I think a link-up might be interesting, in that it would force me to find more successes for an entire blog post, rather than just finding 1 or 2 to fit in a comment without seeming long-winded.

Painting is HUGE & so happy you had a good week, nevermind the shots. But I’m focused on the v. REALLY!? I’m not going to snark at you because you gotta do what you gotta do but maybe you can satisfy my curiosity? Please? WHY? Some of my fav defense attorneys have [gone to the dark side] & I just… I just want to understand.

[and, again, lest you think I’m giving you an unnecesary hard time, I’m mostly kidding. Maybe 33% worth. 🙂 ]

krlr: I switched because as a single mom, I thought the travel requirements and the billable hour were going to make things even more difficult than they were already going to be. Now I have a job that allows me to work from home if J is sick and doesn’t monitor my every hour in six minute intervals… 🙂

I’m proud that I swallowed my need for “fixing” and am allowing my younger brother to just do his own thing, even though it worries me. I’m also proud that I have allowed myself to have a rest day today-meaning that DD watched 2 Sesame Street’s intead of the none that we normally allow-since I am exhausted and tired from lots of other stuff this week. And I gave her a pacifier for nap, which probably will set me back since we had “lost” them all last weekend so that she wouldn’t use them anymore.

I actually started a weekly successes email swap with a good friend of mine. Thanks for the idea!

…well, I still think you’re awesome. And because it’s Friday I’ll spare you my thoughts on 10 page demand letters for soft tissue cases. *sigh*

Ew. Just… ew. 10 pages? SOFT TISSUE? Yeah, that’s nuts. I’m pretty much in a continuous battle with my new boss to make demands more reasonable. 🙂

I don’t have anything particular in mind (it was a boring week) but I wanted to tell you I am so very proud of you. I love the work you’ve done in your hours, your career and I LOVE your bedtime routine. Nice!!

I paid all the bills, mowed the lawn, cut the bushes and took a walk with my daughter. and that was Today. rest of the week… not as good 🙂

Congrats on the painting and the rest.

PS – I love the idea of a linky… I agree with the other poster about a place to celebrate when we have done good.
