Single Successes

Oh this week… what a turnaround!! I’m sure it’s no surprise to anyone that 2011 has not been heavily lauded in my household. There’s been little more than seventeen shades of grief and heartache at every turn and if I could fast forward to January 1, 2012, I’d be a happy camper.
But this week, a little light shone down. This week, one little beam of light said “Hang in there, lady, you’re doing okay.” And that little light is my number one success for this week.
I was named one of the 20 honorees in the Life category for Blogher’s Voice of the Year honor.
No, I don’t get a million dollars.
Nope, there’s no book deal attached.
And no, there’s no plaque.
But this honor means more to me than anything else because of what it stands for. This honor says that these words I’m pouring out onto this space are not going unheard. These words I weep are bigger than me and they make me bigger and stronger. These words are important.
And if these words are important, then by association, the feelings behind those words are important. My tears are important. My heartache is important. And could it be? Could it actually be true that maybe, just maybe… more than the tears and the thoughts and the words… maybe …
I. am. important.
Thank you Blogher for the reminder that words are power and in particular, my words have power. I am a Voice of the Year.
That’s a pretty big success.
